A cell made of diamonds?

“We were with Christ; we didn’t know that we were in prison.” Richard Wurmbrand (1909-2001), was a Romanian Pastor tortured for Christ in prison for years. Check out a bit of his testimony here. Listen to what he says from 2:08 to 3:17. That is apatheia, far from the debilitating doctrine that some conclude it is.

  1. I don’t see why you would disparage apatheia, unless you were thinking his ecstasy was somehow not appropriate to apatheia. You would be quite mistaken, if that is the case.

My apologies, Fr Stephen. That last sentence was my (poor) attempt at a bit sarcasm for those who DO disparage apatheia. My point was, Pastor Wurmbrand’s experience demonstrates that the doctrine is anything but debilitating. It’s freeing and transcendent.

Sorry again. Guess my attempt at irony didn’t work! ;o)
